Ramstein AB, Germany – With the sun shining brightly, players of the 2018, 86 FSS Baseball and Softball teams marched across Donnelly Park, 21 April, for the start of the season.
With more than 2000 players, parents and friends in attendance, 86 FSS Marketing tossed FSS t-shirts and hats into the crowd before the parade of teams. 86 FSS, Commander Lt Col Renee Thuotte cheered on, as Col Joseph Wenckus, Vice Commander, 86th Air Lift Wing threw out the first pitch. A show of colors and national anthems also took place.
A parade of more than 30 teams from both Ramstein and Vogelweh proudly presented their banners in hopes to win a pizza party from Ramstein’s Pizza Gallerie. Despite the fierce competition, junior softball Lady Pirates and tee-ball Mets were chosen as the winners of the parties!
During the day at multiple locations, all teams played their hearts out, but the Giants, Yankees, and White Sox (to name a few) began the season 1-0!
In addition to Opening Day, Month of the Military Child Carnival took place at the park. Parents and kids were able to dunk Melissa Wesley, Director of Child and Youth Programs, in the dunk take, bounce in the bouncy castle, play cornhole and grab a bite to eat.
For more than 30 years, 86 FSS has been starting the baseball and softball season off with opening day and a parade for the teams. We wish them the best of luck this season.
