London, England –For the very first time, the 86th Force Support Squadron paired with Major League Baseball and GEICO to bring members of the Kaiserslautern Military Community to London, England for the very first MLB: London Series, New York Yankees vs. Boston Red Sox. For the past three months, the 86 FSS Marketing team has given away tickets throughout different promotions.
The giveaway debuted at the 2019 Youth Spring Sports Opening Day where we chose our first two winners. Following that, names were determined through Facebook and Instagram promotions, AFN, at our first cornhole tournament, and at the 2019 CINC Celebration. Slowly but surely, winners were added to the list as the number of days got smaller and smaller until it was finally time for the group to make their way to England for an unforgettable weekend!
There was plenty of time to explore the royal city before attending the Major League Baseball games on both Saturday, 29 June and Sunday, 30 June. The group made appearances on both FOX Sports and ESPN Sports throughout the games and family members back home reached out in excitement while watching the national broadcast.
This has been a year in the making for the 86th FSS Marketing Department. It all started with an idea and a dream of working with Major League Baseball to give back to our service members. On a whim, we reached out to MLB and they were more than excited to work out funding, so we started brainstorming fun and exciting promotions to give away the tickets to local military members and their families! The excitement from each winner made a year worth of work completely worth it, and one of the most rewarding factors was all the winners becoming friends throughout the trip. From singing karaoke on the bus to grabbing dinner together, to cheering on their respective teams – it seemed like all of the winners and their guests had an incredible time together!
