Tara Westover was 17 the first time she set foot in a classroom.
Born to survivalists in the mountains of Idaho, she prepared for the end of the world by stockpiling home-canned peaches and sleeping with her “head-for-the-hills bag”.
The family was so isolated from mainstream society that there was no one to ensure the children received an education.
Then, lacking any formal education, Tara began to educate herself.

Each year, the KMC libraries host a reading challenge to encourage the community to read the whole summer long. This year we challenge everyone to read 190 minutes each week for 8 weeks -that equals 1,500 minutes of reading for the summer!

Are you part of the Smartest Squadron? If so, then join the Ramstein & Vogelweh Libraries as they host Smartest Squadron! The squadron with the most logged reading minutes this summer will win a trophy AND bragging rights! Logging begins 9 June and ends 3 August. Remember to select your squadron from the drop-down menu when registering so your minutes will be counted. Updates of minute totals will be posted each week on the libraries’ Facebook page. Reading books, listening to books, studying for or attending classes, or joining in library events all count.
